Q: My medical history is complicated: first it was "in utero" exposure to Di-ethylstilbestrol, then exposure to cigarette smoke, then oral contraceptives, a whiplash and then laser to my cervix which resulted in retention of my menses for 7 years until scar tissue was dilated by D&C. During this time I had no option but to take Serzone, nefazadone. I felt so much better after going off serzone and oral contraceptive but only nine months later suffered serious ligament tear to spine: misoprostol and mobicox as well as other meds gave me GI symptoms++++++ which have been progressing for 9 years. I think I have liver/gallbladder problems. Have you ever helped anyone with combination of serzone/misoprostol/NSAID damage?
A: My sense is that you need to embark on a major overhaul of your health to rebuild from the damage done by all the procedures and meds. I would start with finding a good clinical nutritionist or alternative medicine physician. I have some resources listed on this web site. I would urge you to complete the Comprehensive Health Assessment and the Metabolic Type Test and take the results from both to your alternative physician.

Q: I have a friend who had billroth 11 procedure plus gallbladder removed....he is 6 ft tall and 135 lbs and still dropping. He has worked with a dietician but he is still dropping weight...he now is worried because his hip bones and ribs show through his skin and nobody seems to be able to do anything.....would chelated minerals help???
A: When they re-route part of the digestive tract, it changes everything. I would suggest your friend find a good clinical nutritionist. My initial impression is that he would want to consider a high quality protein supplement along with quality digestive and pancreatic enzymes. Lots of quality dietary fats and oils if he can tolerate them and if not, some supplements for fat digestion would be good as well. Also, simply getting enough calories may be a problem because due to the procedure, he may not be assimilating his food well. In other words, much of what he is eating may be going on through him. If he is prone to diarrhea, he can also consider a good probiotic.

Q: IM 6 MONTHS PREGNANT I HAVE A CONGESTION AND BEFORE I GOT PREGNANT I WAS TAKING IMMUNOSTART BY MANNATECH FOR COLDS IT WORKS REALLY GOOD, I ASKED MY DR IF I STILL COULD TAKE HIM BUT HE COULDNT GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER, IM TAKING PRENATALS VITAMINS SHOULD I BE CONCERNED THAT IT MAY HARM MY BABY OR ME?
A: If your congestion is chronic, that is not a seasonal allergy or occasional cold, I would suggest you consider the possiblity of food allergies. It could be anything in the kitchen but the most notorious for causing congestion is milk or any food containing milk. It will be no problem taking the Immunostart. I would be careful to restrict the amount of Folic Acid intake to 800 mcg. per day total between all your supplements. Another very important consideration is Vitamin D. You can get the Vitamin D levels in your blood tested. The most recent research indicates that the optimal level for all of us of blood vitamin (OH) 25 D3 should be at 50. The normal levels in lab tests will be down around 30 but experts are recommending the 50 as optimal. The significance of the vitamin D is that there is some suggestion in the literature that D deficiency may be a contributing factor to the autism epidemic. You should be taking 5000 IU now and if you nurse your baby up it to 7000 IU. With autism now affecting one out of every 110 children this is a very big deal. The information is at the Vitamin D Council. I will be posting a series of articles about Vitamin D and autism on my blog starting next week. I encourage all my readers to tell everyone they know who may be associated with autism in one way or another to read the blog every week. There will be some absolutely essential information there regarding autism and what we can do to prevent it.
