George Washington U. researchers recently concluded that obesity is very expensive. In terms of sick days, lost productivity, in addition to all the health costs, adds up to $4,879 for women and $2,646 for men, annually. Being simply overweight, (body mass index under 30), but not statically obese, is not so bad, $524 for women, and $432 for men.

Losing weight is not just about eating less food. If you eat the foods that are compatable with your Metabolic Type, you will find losing weight to be a much easier proposition. Also, it is very important to take the correct dietary supplements. Any old over-the-counter supplement from Walmart will not do you nearly as much good as a supplement which is formulated specifically for your Metabolic Type. In fact, if you take supplements not formulated for your Metabolic Type, you are wasting money.

If you are going to go to all the emotional stress and expense of losing weight, why not do it the easier, less expensive way? Eat and take your supplements according to your Metabolic Type. Read all the details on the subject on this web site. You can take the Metabolic Type test free and the information provided with the results of your test will give you all you need to know to get that weight loss program off the ground.

The Pritikin Diet (High Carb Diet) and Metabolic Typing

The high carb diet, sometimes referred to as the Pritikin diet doesn’t work for everyone. The question is, which works best for me, a low protein diet, a high protein diet, or maybe a high carb low fat diet. The information provided by scores of books, web sites and TV commercials is extremely confusing and frustrating.

The ideal diet scenario continues to elude researchers. As recently as last week ABC News* published an article titled Is The Low-Fat, High-Carb Mantra A Myth?
The gold standard diet for decades has been five servings of fruits and vegetables per day and moderate to low consumption of fats and protein. Researchers are beginning to question the high carb low fat diet theory first pioneered by the Pritikin diet in the 1970’s because studies fail to consistently prove it to be right or wrong.

The other side of the coin is the low carbyhydrate, high protein diet commonly refered to as the Atkins diet which emphasizes proteins and fats and minimizes carbohydrates.

Why this dilemma? I believe the answer lies in the fact that we do not all have the same metabolism. Some metabolisms are carbohydrate-based, some are protein-based and some are balanced carb/protein-based. Because the metabolic type of individuals in the studies is not taken into consideration, results are inconsistent. In other words, they are not comparing apples with apples.

As I said in a previous blog, The point of the story is that metabolic typing is important for all of us. Some of us simply do not do as well as we should when we eat the wrong foods not compatible with our metabolic type. It even applies to vitamin supplements. It is entirely possible you are wasting money on supplements not compatible with your metabolic type. If you are on a weight loss you need to know what your metabolic type is. Eating, dieting and taking nutritional supplements which support your particular metabolism rather than work against it as was the case with the football player, greatly enhances your ability to overcome weight loss frustrations.

The online metabolic type test is free. It is simple and convenient to take and the information it provides you is worth your weight in gold. *ABC News/Health January 8, 2010

Atkins Diet and Metabolic Typing

The Atkins diet which is basically a high protein diet or low carb diet has a mixed track record of successes and failures. There is a very good reason for this and it is all about the types of metabolisms that vary from one individual to another. We do not all have the same metabolism. Some of us do well on Atkins diet programs and others literally get sick on such high protein diets. In his book The Metabolic Typing Diet William Wolcott tells the story of a NFL player who had a great season going until the team training table was changed to a high protein, low carb diet menu. The player’s performance deteriorated on the high protein diet. When he was tested with metabolic typing his metabolic type turned out to be more carbohydrate based. When taken off the high protein diet and given the correct nutrition according to his metabolic type, his good performance returned.

The point of the story is that metabolic typing is important not just for athletes but for all of us. Some of us simply do not do as well as we should when we eat foods incompatible with our metabolic type. If you are on a weight loss program you need to know what your metabolic type is.

Check it out.

Please understand that knowing what metabolic type you have, be it fast or slow, carbohydrate-based or protein-based, will make all the difference in your weight loss. Regardless of the weight loss program you are using, metabolic typing is key to success. If you eat the right foods and take the correct supplements according to your specific metabolic type you will reach your goal with less difficulty. Metabolic typing is really not complicated at all. This article and more to follow will build on that premise.

Researchers Discover Obesity to be Worse than Smoking, Drinking or Poverty
Researchers at the RAND Corp. recently examined the comparative effects of obesity, smoking, heavy drinking, and poverty on chronic health conditions and health expenditures*. Their astounding finding was that obesity is the most serious problem! Obesity is linked to a big increase in chronic health conditions and the spiraling rise in health expenditures. Their surprising conclusion was that obesity affects more people than smoking, heavy drinking, or poverty. The study reveals that obesity is linked to very high rates of chronic illnesses, higher than living in poverty, and much higher than smoking or drinking. Seventeen chronic health conditions including diabetes , high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease and cancer were investigated and related to the incidence of obesity.

Few overweight people fail to recognize their need for weight loss. The problem we all face is the inherent difficulty in losing weight. Metabolic typing is a simple tool available to everyone to help overcome the weight loss obstacles. Click here for all the details and stay tuned as I will discuss the subject in depth in upcoming blog posts.
